#About the Park Overlooking Los Angeles

In the heart of Los Angeles is Griffith Park, a vast park rich in vegetation and nature. It is no accident that the locals call it the "Central Park of LA," since it is a huge urban park.

Located on the hills of Los Angeles, Griffith Park offers wonderful views over the Hollywood landscape.

The park has official hiking trails, with difficulty levels and a variety of trails that will lead you to the peaks of its various hills. In the park you will enjoy the possibilities of riding bicycles and horses, plenty of picnic areas, a swimming pool, sporting fields and whatnot.

Children's attractions are also not lacking here. The little ones will be able to board a miniature train, ride ponies, visit the zoo and botanical garden in the park. If you and the spectators are interested, go to the Griffith Observatory and be impressed by the spectacular view of the sky and the universe, an experience that at night is even more special.

In the park try to get to the area called Fern Dell, a shady and pleasant area with magical waterfalls.
The Autry National Center

#Behind the Scenes of the Wild West

The Autry National Center is especially for wild west enthusiasts and the whole genre in general, located in Griffith Park. The center, which is a museum and venue for activities on the subject, gives a real glimpse into the reality and history behind the Wild West genre and the heritage of Western America.

The fascinating museum was founded in 1988 by the actor and businessman Jean Autry and attracts about 150,000 visitors each year. Autry's goal was to "explore and share the comprehensive story of the American West and its many cultures, and interpret its meaning."

If you liked the series "Little House on the Prairie," enjoy the sight of the wooden carriages, or enjoy guns drawn by noon, in this museum you can see the truth behind these myths. Here you can visit exhibitions of native Indian art and culture, listen to lectures and music performances, and participate, along with the children, of course, in special activities that simulate gold mining and basket weaving.

The museum's collection includes about 21,000 paintings, sculptures, costumes, textiles, weapons, equipment and tools, toys, musical instruments, and other objects.

The old museum was remodeled in 2013. Then the exhibits were arranged according to themes rather than in chronological order. In addition, new technology systems were introduced to enrich the visitor's experience .

Today the museum presents contemporary and historical exhibitions, annual programs for children, intellectual forums and more.

#Tips

There is free parking in front of the entrance.

It is recommended to check in advance on the museum's website for special events during your visit to the city.

Hollywood Sign
Hollywood Sign
#About the Famous Sign that Was an Advertisement and Became a Symbol of Hollywood

The Hollywood sign is one of the most important cultural icons for any tourist coming here. It is located at an altitude of 478 meters above sea level, on Mount Lee, within Griffith Park.

The sign itself is protected, so do not be surprised if you can not touch it or approach it. In September 1932, actress Peg Entwistle committed suicide by jumping from the letter "H."

This sign is currently registered as a trademark and can not be used without the approval of the Hollywood Board of Commerce.

#History of the Hollywood Sign

The funny story behind it is that it was designed here as a real estate advertisement in 1923. Its purpose was to promote a new construction project in the Hollywood Hills of the Santa Monica Mountains, with the name "Hollywoodland." In fact, the intention was not to let the sign stay up, the developers intended that the sign would remain in place for only a year, in order to promote the project.

The contract with the maintenance company of the sign ended in 1939, and after a few years the sign deteriorated. In 1949, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce purchased the sign, removed the word "Land" and corrected the rest of the sign.

The new sign was inaugurated on the 75th anniversary of the founding of the city of Hollywood on November 14, 1978. The ceremony was broadcast live on television, where 60 million viewers watched. It also became a star in its own right when it appeared in various scenes in films and series, especially to indicate the location of the plot.

#Tips

For a good photo location: to take pictures of the sign without disturbing the residents, and without getting a parking ticket or being too far away, reached Lake Hollywood Park. Parke a little further down. Walking to Mulholland Drive with Deronda drive will take you to the open entrance to the White Wall and from there to an observation point and an excellent shot to the sign.

Griffith Observatory
Griffith Observatory
#About Los Angeles' Observatory and Planetarium

On a green hill, overlooking Hollywood from high up, and the stars from below, is Griffith Observatory, located on the top part of Griffith Park. With over one million visitors each year, this is the most visited observatory in the world.

Griffith Observatory will take you on an exciting adventure to the solar system and around the whole world. The round, white building can be seen from different points in Los Angeles, and on the weekends gets really crowded.

The observatory was built in Griffith Park by Colonel and astronomy enthusiast, Griffith Jenkins Griffith. His dream was to make the stars reachable for everyone, and not only scientists. This is the reason the entrance to the observatory is free, and has been this way since its establishment in 1935. Griffith's donation money ensure that the entire park around the observation would be named after him. About 10 years ago, the building was renovated at a cost of about $35 million.

In 2006, after renovations that cost about $93 million that lasted 4 years, the observatory was re-opened, with a sophisticated planetarium and small theater, a Foucault pendulum, and fantastic telescope, theater, and more. In the galleries there are scientific exhibits that help understand the sky, solar system, and earth.

In the great musical "La La Land," the famous observatory was one of the most prominent and beautiful locations for the shootings, where the romantic couple spent time. It has been commemorated in many movies, and it even has a monument for the actor James Dean, who filmed here a famous knife fight scene in his famous movie, "Rebel Without a Cause." Besides looking at the sky and stars, the observatory is a great place to look over the Hollywood Sign, as well as a viewpoint for all of Los Angeles.

#Tips

Entrance to the observatory is free, and on weekends can get crowded - try coming here on the weekdays.

The view from here over Los Angeles is great, especially in the evening houses with the lights spread across the city.
