Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels
Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels
#About the Modern Cathedral of Los Angeles

Unlike the other cathedrals you have probably encountered, the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels is a new addition to the landscape of Downtown Los Angeles and does not have a history for decades.

The building was designed by Spanish architect Jose Rafael Moneo and built to last 500 years. It was opened to the public in 2002. Moneo combined traditional European motifs into a modern and new structure.

It caused quite a few controversies due to its interesting design, the high costs required to complete the building, and the Archbishop's decision to store over 1,200 corpses on shelves in the church basement.

Inside the cathedral is a natural light that enters through the large windows and above the altar is a bright and impressive cross. If you go down to the Crypt Museum, you can see the city's previous cathedral, built in 1876 and damaged by an earthquake in 1994.

The large bronze doors at the front of the building were created by the sculptor Robert Graham, who also sculpted the statue of Our Lady with the angels guarding it from above.

Hollywood Sign
Hollywood Sign
#About the Famous Sign that Was an Advertisement and Became a Symbol of Hollywood

The Hollywood sign is one of the most important cultural icons for any tourist coming here. It is located at an altitude of 478 meters above sea level, on Mount Lee, within Griffith Park.

The sign itself is protected, so do not be surprised if you can not touch it or approach it. In September 1932, actress Peg Entwistle committed suicide by jumping from the letter "H."

This sign is currently registered as a trademark and can not be used without the approval of the Hollywood Board of Commerce.

#History of the Hollywood Sign

The funny story behind it is that it was designed here as a real estate advertisement in 1923. Its purpose was to promote a new construction project in the Hollywood Hills of the Santa Monica Mountains, with the name "Hollywoodland." In fact, the intention was not to let the sign stay up, the developers intended that the sign would remain in place for only a year, in order to promote the project.

The contract with the maintenance company of the sign ended in 1939, and after a few years the sign deteriorated. In 1949, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce purchased the sign, removed the word "Land" and corrected the rest of the sign.

The new sign was inaugurated on the 75th anniversary of the founding of the city of Hollywood on November 14, 1978. The ceremony was broadcast live on television, where 60 million viewers watched. It also became a star in its own right when it appeared in various scenes in films and series, especially to indicate the location of the plot.

For a good photo location: to take pictures of the sign without disturbing the residents, and without getting a parking ticket or being too far away, reached Lake Hollywood Park. Parke a little further down. Walking to Mulholland Drive with Deronda drive will take you to the open entrance to the White Wall and from there to an observation point and an excellent shot to the sign.

Dolby Theatre
Dolby Theatre
#About the Place Where the Oscar Awards are Distributed

Since its opening in 2001, the Dolby Theater, formerly known as the Kodak Theater, has hosted the annual and glamorous Oscar ceremony. Then all the great Hollywood filmmakers come here and present themselves to dozens of cameras and photographers, interested in every detail, including personal or at least gossip.

The rest of the year it serves as a hall for performances, official ceremonies, concerts, reality shows, "America's Got Talent" and dance performances. It is located in Hollywood in the Highland entertainment complex on Hollywood Boulevard and North Highland Avenue.

In its external design, this theater is misleading. Although it was designed and built at the beginning of the 21st century, its façade is much more typical of the architecture of the 1920's and the 20th century.

The interior design of the theater includes decorated columns displaying the names of the films entitled "Best Films." There are quite a few places for future winners of this prize.

On other evenings, by the way, it is hard to recognize that here is the sparkling ceremony for the entire world to see. A few days before the glittering Oscar event, a golden cloak covers the theater. The sign is replaced in the Dolby Theater, and the corridors and steps to the building are covered with the famous red carpet.

Tickets for a guided tour of the Oscar Hall and the rest of the building from inside can be purchased at the ticket office.

Madame Tussauds Hollywood
#About the Madame Tussauds Museum

#Who was Marie Tussauds?

It all started with a French wax sculptor named Marie Tussauds, who founded what will be the first Madame Tussauds museum. It was an exhibition of wax sculptures, the first of Tussauds, but all the sculptures displayed were of the sculptor Philip Curtius and they did not include celebrities. The exhibition was held in Paris in 1770. Pretty soon she won success and after 6 years she transferred the exhibit to the Royal Palais.

Tussauds wanted more. She studied the art of wax sculpture from Curtius, her mother was his housekeeper. After he taught her the art of wax sculpture, she created her first sculpture, the statue of Walter. It was in 1777, and the statue aroused so much enthusiasm that French celebrities asked Tussauds to sculpt them as well. Pretty soon she also sculpted famous celebrities such as Benjamin Franklin and Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

In 1792, Tussauds, who inherited the collection of Curtius' sculptures after his death, moved to London, the capital of England, and the Tussauds Wax Museum was born. The museum has gained a reputation as a unique museum and the wax sculptures have gained world renown fame.

The huge success of Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in London led to the opening of Madame Tussauds wax museums all over the world. There are also wax museums in many capital cities around the world, including Vienna, Amsterdam, New York, Berlin, Bangkok and more.

Do not forget to bring a camera.

This site is one of the most prominent symbols of Hollywood Boulevard.

The entire architectural structure is impressive, but pay special attention to the front of the building, which is decorated in the style of an ancient Chinese temple. Every year new stars are invited to accept the status and leave their heritage at the entrance to the theater.

If you arrive in the morning you will be able to see the handprints clearly and take pictures with them properly. By the way, quite a few premieres are held here, so do not be surprised if you come here on one of the evenings and suddenly you will find yourself as part of the fans who came to cheer up the actors. Hollywood Walk of Fame
#About the Place Where you Can See all the Stars

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is one of the places to visit in Los Angeles. It is located between Hollywood Avenue and Wayne Street in California. The boulevard was created by the artist Oliver Weismuller, whose goal was to upgrade Hollywood a little.

The names of over 2,500 entertainment artists are here, and all have been honored for the significant contribution they have made to the entertainment industry. Each star has a pink mosaic with a bronze frame. Inside is the name of the winner and underneath it one of the five symbols symbolizing in what way they contributed to the entertainment industry: film, television, music, radio or theater.

Each year, potential stars are announced on May 31. The Star Avenue Council holds the annual meeting in June to select the people that will receive a star the following year. These council members, by the way, are not known to the public, and this is also the reason why the electoral system is so secretive.

Each name listed here has undergone a complex application approval process. This is why it is also interesting to read on the Hollywood Walk of Fame website stories about the various celebrities who came here for the awards ceremony. The ceremonies are open to the general public. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the twin television stars were the youngest to receive a star - at the age of 17.

One of the most common phenomena here is to see tourists clinging to the name of a star of someone they really admire and taking a picture with their star. Louis Armstrong, David Bowie, Alfred Hitchcock, Marilyn Monroe, and Harrison Ford and even cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse and Pooh the Bear. You can find them all here.

#Stars and Criminals on the Avenue of Stars

The boulevard is being strengthened by the Historic Foundation of Hollywood. Every star who wants to see their name on the boulevard undertakes to attend the ceremony for up to five years from the date of the declaration and pay $15,000 to the fund for expenses (such as securing the ceremony). This amount is usually paid by movie studios and record companies as part of advertising costs. Sometimes the fan clubs pay the price - or the stars themselves.

Despite the meticulous care and maintenance, eight cases of theft of stars from the boulevard have occurred. In October 2016, it was vandalized with a hammer, the Donald Trump's star was stolen in the midst of the US presidential election campaign, which was destroyed by Jamie Otis, an ordinary man who pretended to be the mayor of Los Angeles.

In 1978 Los Angeles declared the boulevard as having cultural and historical significance.
