#About the City of Bangkok

Locals in Bangkok nickname the city Krungthep, 'City of Angels,' was established in 1782 as the capital of Siam, but King Rama I.

When almost every male man spends a portion of his life as a monk (up to three years of his life), there's no surprise that in Bangkok alone are over 400 monasteries. These holy places operate near luxurious palaces, vibrant and lively markets, water canals that have created interesting life in the city since 1782 and today is the center of the religion, the monarchy and culture.

Bangkok, besides its religious aspects, is also a business capital, the capital of modern Thailand, a city with new malls being built, and low prices. This is a big bustling city, loud and hot, has skyscrapers and massive malls, small alleyways and large streets. This city is active and full of life, a place you can fly down south to the white sand islands and the coconut trees, or fly north to mysterious Thailand.

What to see the hottest places in town? - Click on the tag "Must see in Bangkok". There is also a lot to do with children - Click on the tag "Attractions for children in Bangkok".

#When to Visit?

The recommended season to travel is between November to March, when the temperature is average and comfortable and humidity is relatively low.

Between mid-June to August is the monsoon season, there is high humidity and lots of rain. If you are visiting during this time drink a lot of water, and make sure to have air conditioning. Many times the weather is reasonable, but during this season the weather might make plans difficult.

#Accommodation

Fancy hotels are located closer to Riverside, guesthouses and cheaper hotels are closer to the Skytrain line in Siam Square, and backpackers can find accommodation closer to the Chinese district.

Khao San Road, is in the Banglamphu district, not far away from the palace. This area is the main tourist and backpacker area. There are laundry services, restaurants, souvenir shops and travel agencies.

For less busy areas, go towards west Banglamphu, or the alleyways west Th Chakraphong or Th Phra Sumen towards the river where you can sleep in guesthouses.

#Transportation

For a quick way to get across Bangkok - take a motorcycle taxi. Women wearing a skirt or a dress, sit with both legs on one side.

Don't get confused with the Tuk Tuk, the 3-wheel bike, which costs quadruple the price, and is a classic tourist trap. If you are only going for a joy ride, it's not bad, but it's not a form of transportation, because the drivers will take riders to places to offer then tours, that are not so great.

The unique Bangkok experience is the Skytrain. If you are on a shopping day, this form of transportation is recommended because it connects well between all the malls.

SRT is the Thai national train company, and is very efficient. A ticket in second class is similar to the prices of a private company bus, and since the train has nice views, you can enjoy your ride and relax with the view.

Trains for far destinations from Bangkok leave from the Hualamphong Station. Because of the long ticket lines, and the popularity of a certain line, its best to order tickets in advance at the station or over the phone.

One of the fun attractions outside of Bangkok is pedaling, comfortable and cheap on bicycles. You can hire bicycles in the city and take them by train or bus, at a low price or at no additional cost to the ticket. Just please - ride on the sides of the streets!

#Transportation to the Airport

At the terminal take a taxi from the official stall. Make sure not to pay of 200-300 Baht with the meter. Tolls will also be paid in the end with an additional tip, round the total up. The drive should take about half an hour to an hour, according to traffic.

#Shopping

Bangkok is a heaven for shopping. Teenagers and young people like the MBK mall, Siam Center, Central World, Platinum, Manip Plaza - a whole mall for electronics only. Also, some of these malls have all sorts of entertainment, like Thai wrestling, bowling, movie theaters, and more.

Some buy at the Emporium, and many shops around Khao San Road, Siam Square, and Tokyo Center. There are also the night markets Chatuchak, and the floating market. Malls have big department stores with big discounts.

Shopping tip: in most of the Bangkok malls there are sale at the beginning and end of each month, between 30% and 60% off!

Great recommendations - Click on the tag "Shopping in Bangkok".

#Entertainment

Bangkok boasts in the best dance clubs in East Asia, temples of alcohol and music. Most of them crowded around Sukhumvit Road. Some are: Ministry of Sound (Alley 21), Narcissus (Alley 11), QBar (Alley 23), and Bed Supperclub (Alley 11).

Looking for a Jazz club? - There is the famous Saxophone Pub in the city, and the intimate Brown Sugar, the exclusive Bamboo Bar in the Oriental Mandarin Hotel.

Many more - Click on the tag "Entertainment in Bangkok".

#Food

In Bangkok, not only the most well-known are eaten, like the Pad Thai, Thai wok noodle, or Banana Roti, a Thai banana pancake drenched in sweet milk or chocolate syrup.

The best food will be in stalls around the city. Here you can see octopus tentacle skewers, yams baked in coconut cream, fried and bitter silkworms, fried and glazed grasshoppers and other inventions you've never seen before. Bon appetite!

The Thai kitchen has a lot more to offer, including grilled fish, baked chicken over rice, shrimp with noodles, curry dishes and spicy papaya salads. In the dessert section, it's worth it to try the mango sticky rice.

In food stalls and small restaurants, in "noddle shops," and in the night markets you will find noodle bowls, curry bowls with rice called Rath Cao, should cost about 50 Baht per bowl.

Of course with the great food, stall offer the "big mango," a variety of fresh squeezed juices, alongside delicious shakes.

#Tips

It's not typical to leave a tip, even though a tip means gratitude for a service given. Many tourists in recent years leave tips of 10% of the total bill at hotels and restaurants, but tips are not required in taxis.

Berlin
Berlin
#About the City of Berlin

There's no place like Berlin to show the change Germany has undergone since the days of the Nazis and World War II. Here the Germans tried even earlier to establish a democracy in the Weimar Republic, but the country fell into economic crises that completely crumbled democracy. Here Dada was born, the German expressionism in cinema, the cabaret, the "Bauhaus", the important school of design and architecture, and more.

Later the Nazi demons took control of Berlin, and from there tried to take over the world. Here the Nazis were finally defeated by the Allies, and the city was divided into two, the "Berlin Wall" was built, and what Winston Churchill called the "Iron Curtain" between East and West descended on Europe.

Here German reunited at the end of the 1980's, and on both sides Berlin, from East and West, a new Germany was being built, a European leader, a new nation with new values. This is the Germany who's leadership is an example for the rest of the world on how to assist refugees, even when the political price is a heavy one.

Berlin of today is vibrant and young, and might be the most cosmopolitan city in the world, tolerant, vibrant, and attractive city in Europe. A city that attracts beautiful and talented young people like a magnet from all over the world.
