The Museum of the History of the Jews in Belgrade was opened in 1948 and is located on the first floor of the Jewish community building of Belgrade.
Although the museum is on Serbian soil, the stories are reminiscent of what you will hear and see in similar museums throughout Europe. It portrays the lives of the Jews in the area of Serbia and their history. The museum tells about Jewish life in good times and in difficult and threatening times. From the story of the flourishing Jewish communities of the last centuries to the persecution and extermination during the Holocaust. The magnificent synagogues, their destruction in the Holocaust and their neglect in the Communist era are displayed here.
But the place is not only a museum, but also an extensive archive of books, manuscripts and various publications dealing with the Jewish communities of what was Yugoslavia.
