The Church with the 3D Illusion
We would not invite you to join us for another church tour, if it were not for the Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola (Chiesa di Sant'Ignazio di Loyola), a vastly different church than any other in Rome. Beyond the traditional queue and crowds,, especially during the tourist season in Rome, this church is a truly charming spot.
It is a beautiful baroque church. Built in the 17th century, it is especially famous for its beautiful frescoes painted on its walls.
Pay particular attention to the painting of the ceiling which plays a trick on the mind and creates an optical illusion that the roof shape of the Church of St. Ignacio is a dome, whereas in fact it is a flat roof that the artist managed to create an illusion of depth like that of a dome. This also proves that optical illusions are nothing new.
The Church of St Ignacio is not far from the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain. Come here!
