About The Clear Water FountainJust before reaching the Meiji Shrine in the Harajuku district, turn left into a corner in the temple garden and you will reach a point where you will see a tiny spring, a well with clear water. The Japanese talk about it as a kind of water that is the most clear in Japan.
It is the well of Kiyomasa Edo, where many visitors believe it gives strength and gives positive energy.
The well was excavated by the famous feudal general Kato Kiyomasa. His family was here during the Edo period, although it is not clear whether he himself lived here.
This well became famous after it was broadcasted on Japanese television with some poeple who claimed that their luck improved, once they chose to change the spring's pictures as the background of their cell phone.
The entrance to the spring is priced, and every visitor receives a numbered ticket to see the well.
