The 56 meter high 9-story tower is narrow and stands on a small plot of land. Inside the tower you will find a large pearl jewelry display. This is because it is the flagship store of the Mikimoto Jewelry Company, which belongs to the building and is named after it. The company’s offices are also here, but on the upper floors.
The construction method here was very interesting. The building has 4 thin steel walls. The interior is hollow and has no support columns, thanks to a unique construction method that succeeds in stabilizing with greatly sophisticated thin walls, also allowing arrangement of the windows, in a
non-contiguous order and in any form and way of design.
The random openings in the building resemble drops, or air bubbles. The architect managed to design and stabilize a structure of lightness and strength, that together resulted in a beautiful and stable job. It is important in Tokyo, which has known severe earthquakes.
