About the Shizouka BuildingShizuoka Building, located at the edge of Ginza, is an iconic office building built in 1967. The building, 57 meters high, was designed by Kenzō Tange.
The offices of the various media stations are based in this building, controlled by the Shizuoka Corporation. In the center of the building (which stands on a small triangular piece of land) there are beautiful spiral staircase.
The dark figure of the tower, covered with black aluminum, makes it one of the most famous towers in Ginza. Many travelers come to visit it from the nearby railway station, where trains from the west arrive in Tokyo.
The building was designed by Kenzō Tange, an architect from a Japanese group of architects, who created in the style of modern international design. He is associated with an architectural movement called "metabolism." This movement has since the 1960's created a style that combined permanent building forms, along with flexible spaces and functions.
