Excellent Restaurant in an Abandoned Port
Thalasino Ageri is located in the abandoned port of a suburb east of Chania called Halepa. The tables are almost at water level located around old wooden boats, crumbling warehouses and other authentic and non-touristy elements.
This is a great place to enjoy the sunset, with the gentle breeze and the local atmosphere, in one of the most spectacular and special locations on the island. An even better bonus is the great food here.
It starts with the excellent mezes here, including the typical
Tzatziki, the Greek salad and skordalia, which is a wonderful garlic spread. The great zucchini chips are also a great pick. Fish patties are served on the table, with potatoes spiced with dill, calamari with a crispy crust, tiny shrimp and sea fish reminiscent of nuts, fish eggs and more.
Since this is a port, seafood is the main attraction on the menu. One can go and pick the groupers, the barbounia , sardines, grilled octopus, barracuda, swordfish, sepiida, calamari and everything caught in the net that day.
Do not let the dizzying selection confuse you. The food is excellent. Grilled fish, or fried in pieces or whole - each dish is properly tended to.
Desserts such as homemade semolina or cold watermelon and a cold, sharp raki is a great close to a wonderful meal. From the very first moment, the experience here is really special!
