About Sofia's VillageIn its past, Elounda was a small and quiet fishing village on the beaches of Crete. However today, the village has become an expensive and popular tourist destination, located right across from the island of Spinalonga. The island that was in the past called "Leper Island." From the East side of Elounda you can go for a nice boat ride, about 15 minutes, to that island.
The town and its coastline are located at a great spot in Crete, North of Agios Nikolaos and East of Hersonissos, that is packed with tourists. Winding roads lead to Elounda, located on one of the most beautiful bays on the islands. Next to simple hotels, Elounda is home to some of the most luxurious hospitality on the island.
Today, the village is a popular tourist destination, even if Elounda has lost some of its authentic and small village Greek charm, it is still a wonderful spot for a vacation, less commercialized than other towns, and surrounded by mountains and clear waters.
