Legend has it that this is where Zeus was hidden as a baby when he was born. Zeus, known as the father of the gods, was hidden in the cave by his mother, who was afraid of Zeus's father, Cronus. Cronus wanted to kill his young son, after being told in a prophecy that one of his children will kill him. Horrific? Yes, but Greek mythology assures us that this is what happened. You might ask yourself, how might baby Zeus get food and water to keep him alive? How did he grow? It is said that a goat gave him milk, not any average goat, but the goat nymph Amalthea. This is how Zeus was raised.
From this cave, there is a hike that heads towards the Psiloritis Mountains, it is not a tough hike, but it takes a whole day for the walk there and the walk back. Make sure to carry water, as there are no water sources along the way.
