The Classic Deli with a Modern Edge at the Carmel MarketThe Hashomer 1 is a stall that can be summed in 9 words, "When you are cheap and great, all is good!"
And there is nothing wrong about this popular place - from its location to its food, and the price - this is how an authentic food stall should operate in the Israeli market.
Hashomer 1 is run by the young chef Naor Cohen. The menu promises "food from the market" and is delivers successfully. There is a selection of excellent sandwiches in sweet Jewish challah and not too large. Inside the challah is a selection of popular Israeli dishes with Mediterranean roots, but with the care of a small, smart kitchen. Here the fun and tasteful versions of some of Israel's cuisine, which have been corrupted by quite a few unsuccessful kitchens, make a comeback here -small-kebabs, Shnitzel, a Jerusalem mix that upgrades a lot and is branded here as "mixed with Jerusalem workers," and other divine foods such as grilled eggplant, barbones and meat patties.
Want our recommendation? - We recommend the awesome sandwich with the Iraqi patties. Delicious!
Hashomer 1 is on the corner between the market and the Hashomer alleyway. Ensure you come here during you trip to Tel Aviv, and wait patiently in line - this is how you know what this place is worth...
