Its convenient location, in the district of Bangalampu, about a kilometer from the King's Palace, makes Kao San the perfect place in Bangkok for cheap accommodation. That's why this is Bangkok's bustling backpacker center. Those who stay here are usually traveling on a tight budget, and love the endless activity 24 hours a day, when there is always something happening here.
But even for those who do not sleep here, it is worth visiting this lively and young street and experiencing the shock of the guesthouses, hostels, along with an unbelievable abundance of food stalls, restaurants, bars, clubs, shops for everything possible, women wearing braided hair or dreadlocks and Thai massage facilities.
Beyond the cheap lodging neighborhood, many here will note that the word "Khao-san" has long become a kind of mantra in backpackers in Thailand. For many of them this is a kind of paradise for backpackers, and no less. This street is an open center for young people, artists, art students, tourists with backpacks and young people from Bangkok who come here to listen to music, drink and dance in clubs along the street.
Incidentally, in Thai "Khao San" means "delicate rice." Here was once the central rice market of Bangkok. Even today, the streets are full of incredible variety of Pad Thai stalls and a variety of Thai delicacies, at ridiculous prices. Next to them are countless restaurants, with food from all over the world and spices. There's everything here, from Indian food to Italian, Chinese, Japanese, American and more.
