Until Hong Kong was given back to Chinese ownership, Sha Tin used to be in a different state. Today, many of the residents in Hong Kong come here for cheap shopping and buying fakes of international brands, not available in Hong Kong itself, especially not for the same prices.
Because the new city, back in the end of the 20th century was a small fishing village, with only 20,000 residents, today it has grown to become a vibrant industrial town. Wide avenues of the big new city replaced the narrow alleyways of the small village. Lower village houses were replaced with hundreds of tall skyscrapers housing million of residents, who only keep multiplying in number.
