This is one of the most special places in the world. The famous tar pits of Los Angeles have existed there for tens of thousands of years. Over the years, mammoths and other animals that lived about 11,000 years ago have been caught in the wild Los Angeles area of those days. In the pits fossils were created, from which we learned quite a bit about what happened here in the past. Over 3,000,000 fossils and artifacts are displayed or stored in the museum, for research purposes and for visitors.
The burning pits of the tar, from which the scientists of the place annually remove more and more remnants of ancient animals, teach about the life that existed here tens of thousands of years ago. The tar is usually covered with dust, leaves or water.
You can see the work of the scientists and work on the site, tour the active sites in the area, experience a variety of activities at the museum, watch the active tar pits and explore the pleasant gardens with seating areas and ancient animal statues.
Mammoths, tigers, giant lizards - remains of hundreds of ancient animals that sank millions of years ago in tar and since the 18th-century scientists have been working hard to expose to the public. In the exhibition halls you can also see fossils and skeletons and the exhibits here are updated regularly.
