The Matadero opened in 2007, in the spirit of changing public buildings in many European cities into art spaces and active galleries. Instead of meat being hung up from the ceiling, today art is hung up in the large spaces, taking the place of the refrigerators that used to be here.
In the large building there are many wide open spaces, that give artists real space to work with, without constrictions on size and height.
In the Matadero you can find impressive displays of paintings, sculptors, design and video art. The projects here are of all fields and interact with artists from around the world. Music performances, of all styles and numbers, theater productions, and alternative theater make this place into a lively cultural center.
